Throughout the 150-year history of the Ateneu Barcelonès, which has been presided over by figures such as Àngel Guimerà, Joan Maragall and Pompeu Fabra, it has played a central role in the re-awakening of Catalan culture in this past century and a half. The centre has played a key role in promoting the Catalan language and literature; there have been influential social gatherings that have introduced new ideas into Catalan society from all over the world in the scientific, intellectual and artistic fields. It has also welcomed visits from important international figures to promote the debate of ideas. It is a historic and unique building that houses one of the most important private libraries in our country. At the end of the visit we will go to the garden to enjoy the jazz concert with a vermouth.
MUSICIANS
Ivo Sans invites a series of musicians, with whom he forms several trios, to offer a subtle but intense jazz concert, in this wonderful inner courtyard, sheltered by majestic palm trees. Veteran musicians such as clarinettist Fredrik Carlquist, guitarist Dani Pérez and the well-known face, double bassist Masa Kamaguchi, come together for the Saturday afternoon jazz programme, along with new talents such as Víctor Carrascosa on trumpet, or Jaume Ferrer on tenor sax. They are the perfect ingredients to enjoy an afternoon of vibrant music! Visitors on Saturday afternoon will be able to stay and enjoy the concert.
