Antoni Gaudí’s most distinctive work

The Bellesguard Tower by Antoni Gaudí is one of the architect’s most unique works. The abundance of water and the purity of the air have ensured that the area where it stands has always been inhabited. A visit here offers a glimpse into the history of Catalonia.

History

In the 15th century, Bellesguard served as the residence of King Martin I, called Martin the Humane, ruler of the Crown of Aragon and the last heir of the House of Barcelona. The remains of the former royal castle and its walls can still be seen.

Over the centuries, Bellesguard has hosted many notable figures in the history of Catalonia. In 1900, Maria Saguès, widow of merchant Jaume Figueras, purchased the estate and commissioned Antoni Gaudí to design a family residence. Built between 1900 and 1909, Gaudí envisioned it as a medieval-inspired castle, with works continuing until 1916. During the 20th century, the estate passed through several owners, including the Guilera family, who transformed it into a gynecology clinic. Today, Bellesguard is owned by Catalana Occident.

What will we visit?

The visit includes the gardens surrounding the estate, as well as the entrance hall, the brick hall, and the terraces, offering magnificent views.
